Advanced maintenance for your gaming chair: VALK guide

If you already follow our basic maintenance routine—quick cleaning, vacuuming, fast adjustments—now it’s time to level up. With a few “weekend” tasks you’ll extend your chair’s life, kill squeaks and keep every mechanism smooth.

1. Lubricate friction points

Over time, metal joints lose their factory grease and start to squeak. You’ll need:

  • WD-40 or lithium spray-grease
  • A cloth for excess
  • Thin gloves (optional)

Key areas:

  1. Tilt mechanism (under the seat). Light spray on pivots and spring joint.
  2. . Spray the hinge and rock the backrest to work it in.
  3. Gas lift cylinder. Raise the chair fully, spray the exposed shaft, wipe any excess so dust won’t stick.

Tip: A thin film is enough—don’t over-spray.

2. Tighten screws and kill play

Twice a year, work through every bolt with the original Allen key—base, seat sides, then backrest.

  • Tightening torque: snug, not forced. When you feel resistance, add half a turn.
  • Suggested order: base ⇒ seat ⇒ backrest.

3. Wheels: deep clean & grease

Hair and dust wedge into the axle. Pop each wheel off (most are press-fit) and:

  1. Pull debris with tweezers or cotton swab.
  2. Wipe the axle with a slightly damp cloth.
  3. Add a tiny drop of light grease, then re-fit.

4. Gas lift check & tilt tension

If the chair sinks or the rocking is too loose/tight, recalibrate:

  • Height: test several positions—if the cylinder drifts, replace it.
  • Tilt tension: the knob under the seat sets stiffness. Clockwise = harder, anticlockwise = softer.

When a cylinder is worn out, swap it. Our VALK spare-parts section stocks class-4 cylinders in multiple sizes.

5. Protect the upholstery—no cracks

Synthetic leather can crack with humidity and neglect. Follow the tips in: How to prevent PU leather from cracking.

Suggested schedule

Advanced task Frequency
Lubricate mechanisms Every 6 months
Tighten screws Every 6 months
Clean & grease wheels Every 6–9 months
Re-tune tension & height When you change desk or feel play

This advanced plan keeps your chair quiet, stable and gliding smoothly for years.
